Terms of Service
Effective date: September 11, 2026
RookReader is an ebook, audiobook and web-novel reader developed by cosmiklore. By downloading or using the RookReader app, you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please do not use the app. These Terms sit alongside the Privacy Policy, which explains what data the app handles.
1. Acceptance of Terms
Using RookReader means you accept these Terms. If you are using the app on behalf of someone else, you confirm you are authorised to accept them on their behalf.
2. The Service
RookReader is a reader. It opens book files you already have, plays audiobooks you already have or that are in the public domain, and follows web serials through their publishers' own syndication feeds. It is not a bookstore, a library, and not a source of copyrighted material. We do not host, sell, or distribute books.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to create a RookReader account, or older where your country requires it. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent or guardian's permission.
4. Your Account
An account is required so that your reading position, highlights and notes can follow you between devices, and so that a Pro purchase stays attached to you rather than to a single phone. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for activity under your account. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account, which erases your server-side record.
5. Your Books and Your Content
The files you import remain entirely yours. We claim no ownership of them, and — as described in the Privacy Policy — they stay on your device and are never uploaded to us.
You are responsible for having the right to the files you import. Do not use RookReader to open, store or share material you are not lawfully entitled to possess. RookReader does not remove, bypass or circumvent digital rights management, and does not open DRM-protected files.
6. Third-Party Content
Some content reaches the app from sources we do not control, and we provide it as-is:
- Audiobooks browsed in-app come from LibriVox and the Internet Archive and are public-domain recordings, subject to those services' own terms.
- Web serials are fetched from each publisher's own RSS or Atom feed. We render what the publisher chose to syndicate and link back to the source. We do not scrape web pages, and the publisher may change or withdraw a feed at any time.
- Book catalogues and cloud storage you connect — OPDS servers, Calibre-Web, WebDAV, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Audiobookshelf — are your own accounts and services, governed by their terms, not ours.
7. RookReader Pro
Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Nothing renews, and features unlocked by Pro will not later be moved behind a second purchase. Optional Rook AI credit packs are separate, consumable purchases.
All payments are processed by Apple or Google. We never receive or store your payment details. Refunds are handled under the App Store or Google Play refund policy and must be requested through them; we cannot issue a refund directly, though we would like to hear from you if something went wrong.
8. Rook AI
Rook AI generates text about the book you are reading, and is deliberately limited to the portion you have already read. Like all language models it can be wrong, and it is not a substitute for reading the book. You may connect your own API key from a third-party provider, in which case your requests go to that provider under their terms and we do not hold that content.
Your books, highlights and notes are never used to train AI models.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use RookReader to infringe copyright or any other person's rights.
- Attempt to circumvent Pro gating, purchase verification, or usage limits.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or interfere with the app or our servers, except where that right cannot lawfully be restricted.
- Use automated means to place unreasonable load on our services or on any publisher's feed through the app.
10. Availability and Changes
We may add, change or remove features, and connected services may become unavailable for reasons outside our control. Books stored on your device remain readable regardless, and the app's core reading functions do not require our servers to be reachable.
11. Disclaimer
RookReader is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that sync, feeds or third-party services will always succeed.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, cosmiklore is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for loss of data. Our total liability relating to the app will not exceed the amount you paid for it. Keep your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose — Settings → Backup & restore exists for exactly that.
13. Termination
You may stop using RookReader and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these Terms. Deleting your account removes your server-side record; files on your device are unaffected.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms. The effective date at the top of this page will change, and continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
15. Contact
For questions about these Terms, contact us at epoch.feedback@gmail.com. For help with the app, see RookReader Support.
