RookReader Support
Updated: September 11, 2026
RookReader is made by one person at cosmiklore, and every message goes straight to them. Write to epoch.feedback@gmail.com and you will get a reply. If you are reporting something that went wrong inside the app, Settings → Send feedback is better than email — it attaches the diagnostic details that make a bug findable.
Which files can I open?
EPUB, PDF, MOBI, AZW3, FB2, DOCX, RTF, TXT, HTML and CBZ comics. RookReader reads files you already have — import them from your device, or connect OPDS, WebDAV, Calibre-Web, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive.
Three things it cannot open, and says so plainly rather than failing quietly: DRM-protected books (including purchases tied to another store's account), CBR comics, and DjVu or XPS documents. A CBR file converted to CBZ will open.
Where do my books live?
In RookReader's own private storage on your device. They are not uploaded to us, and we never see their contents. On iOS they are deliberately excluded from iCloud backup so that a large audiobook library does not quietly consume your iCloud quota — back those files up from your computer instead.
I paid for Pro and it is not showing
Two different causes, with two different fixes.
- Same device, Pro missing: go to Settings → RookReader Pro and tap Restore purchase. Make sure you are signed in to the same App Store or Google Play account that made the purchase.
- A different device: sign in to RookReader with the same RookReader account. Pro follows your account, not your hardware, so it is already waiting for you there.
Pro is a one-time purchase. There is no subscription, nothing renews, and nothing you have unlocked will be taken away later.
Sync stopped, or only one book is syncing
That is the free tier working as intended. Without Pro, RookReader syncs the reading position of one book — enough to watch sync actually work before you decide to pay for it. Pro syncs your position, highlights and notes for your whole library across every device you are signed in on.
If sync is stalled with Pro active, check that both devices are signed in to the same account and online. The reading screen's Display sheet shows the current sync state for the book you have open.
A web serial has no cover, or is not updating
RookReader follows web serials through their RSS or Atom feed only — it never scrapes a publisher's web pages. That is a deliberate choice, and it has two visible consequences.
- New chapters appear when the feed publishes them. If a chapter is on the site but not in the feed yet, RookReader cannot see it.
- Cover art comes from the feed or the serial's own page. When a serial publishes neither, RookReader draws a coloured monogram cover instead so your shelf stays scannable.
Adding a serial works best when you paste the link to the serial's main page rather than its raw feed URL — that page usually carries the cover art.
Rook AI
Rook AI only ever sees the part of a book you have already read, so it cannot spoil what is ahead of you. It is a Pro feature. You can chat using our key, or connect your own API key from Claude, OpenAI or any compatible provider — in which case your text goes to that provider directly and we never hold it.
Your books are never used to train any AI model, by us or by anyone else.
Refunds
Purchases are handled entirely by Apple and Google — we cannot issue a refund ourselves, and we never see your payment details. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com for the App Store, or through your order history in the Google Play Store. Write to us anyway if something went wrong — we would rather fix it than have you fight a form.
Deleting your account
In the app: Settings, then Delete account at the very bottom of the screen. This erases your server-side record — your synced positions, highlights and notes. Books stored on your device are yours and are not touched; delete the app to remove those.
If you cannot reach the app, email epoch.feedback@gmail.com from your account address and we will do it within 30 days.
Getting your data out
Nothing here is a trap. Settings → Backup & restore saves a backup file of your library, highlights and bookmarks, and Settings → Highlights & apps exports every highlight and note as Markdown or sends them to Readwise.
Still stuck
Email epoch.feedback@gmail.com. Telling us your device, your app version (Settings → About) and what you expected to happen gets you a useful answer on the first reply instead of the third.
